How to use your cloth pads

The concept of a reusable cloth pad is the same as a single-use disposable pad. They are designed to fit in your underwear, snap securely in place, and absorb your menstrual flow.

Washing reusable menstrual pads is actually simple! Rinse your pad after removal and toss it into a wet bag (we include one!) until you’re ready to do the laundry.

Cloth pads FAQs

How do I clean cloth pads?

Wash your cloth pads with cold water and hang them up to dry. Learn more on our blog.

Can these be used as incontinence pads?

Yes, you can use your cloth pads as incontinence pads. We still recommend you wash them in cold water and change them out regularly.

How can I change my cloth pads while I’m not at home?

We recommend keeping your wet bag (included with your pads) in your purse or backpack. Simply fold your used pads (you can snap them closed) and put them in your wet bag so they won’t make a mess in your purse. Make sure to take them out and wash them when you get home!

To remove stains, we recommend washing your pads with cold water, vinegar, and baking soda. Hang them to dry and let them dry completely.

Do you have other sizes?

Yes! Our pads are available in Panty Liners, Day Pads and Overnight sizes.

Menstrual cup FAQs

Why do I experience pain while inserting my cup?
Your cup should not be painful. If you are experiencing pain, your cup could be too big and we recommend trying a smaller size. Tight pelvic floor muscles could also cause some irritation. In this case, using a softer cup may help.
How do I get my cup to pop open?
If you have trouble getting your cup to pop open and seal properly, use the C fold and a little lubricant. Try inserting while squatting. After inserting, grab the base of the cup and rotate the cup in a circular motion. Run a finger around the rim to check for folds. If necessary, wiggle the cup up and down a little (but don’t pull on it). If those tips don’t work, you may need a smaller size.
Can you turn the cup inside out / Can I trim the stem?

Yes! If the stem is too long or is bothering you, trim it a little at a time to find the perfect length for you. You can use a nail file to smooth out any rough edges. If the stem is still bothering you, try turning the cup inside out.

What if I can’t reach my cup when I try to take it out?
If you’re having trouble reaching your cup, relax your muscles, squat, and try to grab the base of the cup to break the seal. Read how to remove a stuck cup on our blog.

How often should you sterilize your cup?

We recommend sterilizing your cup before and after each period. If you are prone to yeast infections, then sterilizing your cup daily is recommended. You can sterilize your cup by boiling it on the stove, or by using our steamer or UV sterilizer. Learn more about sterilizing your cup on our blog.

How can I get rid of cup odor and stains?

Maintain a good habit of cleaning and sterilizing your cup. If your cup has a weird smell that won’t come out with regular cleaning, you can try a vinegar lemon rinse or sunbathing your cup. Learn more about removing cup odor on our blog.

How long do Pixie Cups last?

Our cups can last up to 10 years with proper care.

Can I use a cup with an IUD, Nuvaring, or any other inserted birth control?

Yes! You can use a menstrual cup with an IUD. Read more on our blog.

Can I recycle my cup?

Yes! Cups are made with medical-grade silicone; some hospitals may have procedures in place for recycling silicone. It’s also safe to burn. Silicone burns to simple ash and doesn’t give off toxic fumes. Read more on our blog.

Menstrual cup FAQs

How do I insert a cup and what fold should I use?
We recommend the C fold if you are having a hard time getting the cup to “pop” open. The punch-down or the triangle fold are best if you have a smaller opening or experience pain with inserting tampons. The C fold is the most popular and works for most women. Learn more about cup folds on our blog.
Why is my cup leaking?

If your cup has fully opened and it is still leaking, you probably need a bigger cup. If you are having trouble getting your cup to open and you have tried all of our recommended tips, then you likely need a smaller cup.

What if I can’t reach my cup when I try to take it out?
If you’re having trouble reaching your cup, relax your muscles, squat, and try to grab the base of the cup to break the seal. Read how to remove a stuck cup on our blog.

Why is my cup sliding down or falling out?

If your cup is sliding down, you may need a bigger size. However, it’s also possible that you have weak pelvic floor muscles. Learn how to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles.

Our cups can last up to 10 years with proper care.

Why did my stem break?

Without proper care, the silicone will break at its weakest point, the stem. Also, removing the cup by tugging on the stem without breaking the seal will cause extra stress and may cause the stem to tear or break.
