In this article, we show you three delightful and easy-to-make summer drink recipes that are not only delicious but also provide specific benefits for women during menstruation. So, grab your blender lets get started. (PS – my three kids LOVED these too!)

Watermelon Mint Cooler

A tantalizing Waterleman cocktail made with fresh fruits and sparkling water, garnished with a lime wedge.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups watermelon chunks
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 cup cold water
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optionall)
  • Squeeze of honey (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a blender, combine watermelon chunks, mint leaves, lime juice, ice cubes and water.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture into a glass.
  4. Add ice cubes, a pinch of salt, and a squeeze of honey – if desired.
  5. Garnish with a mint leaf.
  6. Stir and enjoy!

Why it’s good for you:

  • Watermelon is rich in water content, which can help in preventing dehydration during menstruation.
  • Watermelon also contains lycopene, an antioxidant that may help reduce menstrual cramps and bloating.
  • Mint leaves have a cooling effect on the body and can help relieve menstrual discomfort, such as nausea or headaches.
  • Lime juice provides vitamin C, which aids in iron absorption and helps combat fatigue and weakness during menstruation.

Ginger Lemonade

A zesty Ginger Lemonade with a hint of ginger spice, served in a chilled glass with lemon wedges.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 2-3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes
  • Squeeze of lime (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add grated ginger and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  4. Strain the ginger-infused water into a pitcher.
  5. Add lemon juice and sweeten with honey or maple syrup.
  6. Stir well to combine.
  7. Refrigerate until chilled.
  8. Serve over ice cubes.

Why it’s good for you:

  • Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that can help alleviate menstrual cramps and reduce bloating.
  • Ginger can also help with nausea, which is a common symptom during menstruation.
  • Lemon is rich in vitamin C, which aids in iron absorption and supports overall immune health.
  • Lemon juice also provides a refreshing flavor and can help balance your body’s pH levels.

Berry Chia Fresca:

A vibrant Berry Chia Fresca served in a mason jar, showcasing layers of chia seeds, mixed berries, and sparkling water.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mixed berries (such as strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 cups coconut water or coconut milk (I preferred coconut milk for the creamy texture – as seen in the picture)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions:

  1. In a blender, combine mixed berries, ice cubes and coconut water.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture into a glass.
  4. Stir in chia seeds and let it sit for 5 minutes to allow them to swell.
  5. Add honey or agave syrup if desired and stir well.
  6. Enjoy!

Why it’s good for you:

  • Berries are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which can help reduce inflammation and boost your immune system during menstruation.
  • Chia seeds are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and minerals like magnesium and calcium, which can help ease cramps and regulate bowel movements.
  • Coconut water is hydrating and provides electrolytes, which can help replenish lost fluids and prevent fatigue or muscle cramps.

Remember, these drinks can provide hydration and powerful nutrients that may support your well-being during your period.
